This is the very first issue of VNIX Bulletin! It is now a year since the birth of VNIX. Looking back, what started off as an architectural detailing and rendering start-up have now grown robustly and dynamically into a full-fledged design house, with capabilities and track records in structural design, steelwork detailing, architectural and quantity surveying. It’s amazing what has happened in a year!
With the confirmation of our latest project - a 28 storey residential development in Perth, we have added another feather to our cap: - precast concrete detailing technology. Featured in this bulletin are some selected projects from the residential, commercial, industrial and institutional building segments that we have completed. We also take an optimistic gaze into the crystal ball – upcoming potential projects! We are currently in negotiations with some major players in the mining, off-shore and construction industries to provide long-term contracts for structural design and detailing services. We are gradually and constantly moving towards our goal of becoming the leading design and detailing one-stop solution center in the region.
We would also feature a dedicated staff employee on every issue, software updates, plus write-ups on some interesting current industry issues. I hope that you would find reading this quarterly bulletin a worthwhile experience.

Isn’t it ironic that, while we live in a 3D world, we interpret and communicate our design ideas with a 2D medium?
Building projects are more often than not battlefields with various departments arguing their way through a minefield of misunderstandings.
What we need is thorough project understanding through a robust collaborative platform.
Enter 3D modeling, where architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing pros come together to solve problems easily. Unproductive arguments between departments and costly construction mistakes can indeed be a thing of the past.
A little over a year ago, VNIX was born with a dream to make seamless 3D modeling a reality. Today, we are proud to become an integrated service center with both architectural and structural modeling capabilities.
But we are not resting our laurels. As we move towards the closure of 2007, VNIX hopes to stablish MEP (mechanical, electrical and piping) modeling capabilities and become a true “one stop solution center” for cad modeling in all aspects of building projects.

BGC Residential Homes
VNIX is proud to be the partner of choice for BGC, one of the largest best homebuilders in Australia. Most of contract documentations across BGC's house brands are done out of our Singapore and Manila offices.
As residential projects form an important base of work for BGC, VNIX illustrated our competencies in handling a wide variety of work - from affordable single detached house to multi-storey homes and apartments. 50% of our monthly projects are for Perth-based houses.
BGC builds more homes for West Australians than any other home builders, and we maintain their home pride by preserving individual house designs and styles throughout our work.
Animations & Renderings
Imagine…
Your creative ideas and innovative concepts can be translated into amazing, photo-realistic 3D still images of the perfect house design.
Imagine further…
When these 3D images can then be transformed into a walk-through video on your future house, complete with realistic preview of actual material, interior lighting, landscaping, natural lighting as seasons change.
VNIX animators and renderers make all these possible with a suite of state-of-the-art software – 3D Max, AutoCAD, Archicad and ArtLantis. You can now showcase your design to potential buyers… or to spot and resolve potential construction problems… or just to get a feel how your masterpiece will eventually look like… Truly, the way you can use the output is only limited by your imagination.
Vanphong Oil and Natural Gas Project
The completion of the 3D model for this oil and gas site proves distance is no barrier to VNIX.
Using the incredible Google Map, our team first captured the landscape details of Vanphong, which is located at one of the remote islands of Vietnam. We then turned these data into detailed 3D model using an array of sophisticated program and graphic software.

Steel Pipe Bridges on Jurong Island, Singapore

Facilities across Jurong Island – Singapore’s heart of the oil & gas and petrochemical industries – are interconnected with a vast network of steel bridges, supporting water, gas pipes and electrical cables.
When our structural division kicked off in March 2007, a specialist steelwork fabricator enlisted VNIX to detail a network of steel pipe bridges.
We did that – and then went one step further to design and improve most of the connection joints. The end result? A shorter construction time with easier installation, and a very happy client.
University Library in Perth, Western Australia

The Task
To model the roof structure - including all connection joints - for the new science library at UWA, which has a distinctive dual-layered shape and a feature at the roof center.
The Solution
VNIX chooses StruCad to complete the entire 3D model. The software provides tremendous advantages:
- Automated generation of shop-drawings for workshop fabrication
- Streamlined the design and detailing connection joints
- Revisions and changes are incorporated to the 3D model in real-time and can be easily tracked
The Result
The entire detailing process was completed almost 8 times faster than conventional 2D methods – thanks to StruCad.
Additions and alterations to office tower at Tanjong Pagar

The extension and alteration works to this office building in downtown Singapore features an impressive glass façade at the upper floors, which is supported by a complex web of steel structures. Erection of these structures at such a height poses a huge challenge to the steel specialist – a daunting task.
The specialist then turned to VNIX to make the impossible possible, and we rose the challenge. Designing and detailing this complicated structure to simplify connections and enable speedier installation are no mean feats - but with lots of hard work and dedication, we did it.
Yet another milestone for our incredible team at VNIX!

Chan Sook Lee is a soft spoken lady. Born in Malaysia, she is a permanent resident in Singapore and has been working in the construction industry here for more than ten years.
She has two kids - 2 boys both in primary school. Sook Lee has managed to perfectly balance work and family commitments. Previously working as a detailer in an engineering contracting firm, Sook Lee joined VNIX in March 2007 as a Steel Detailer. As part of her induction program, she received a week of official training in March on the use of StruCad, a 3D steel modeling and detailing software. Since her training, she has now already completed more than 6 steelwork projects on StruCad. Now she will be able to teach, train and guide new detailing staff. Her ability and dexterity on the use of StruCad is commendable indeed. More commendable is her attitude towards her work and sense of urgency and responsibility. It is usual to see her working in the office into the late hours at night, just to meet a client dateline request. A comment from her immediate supervisor: “I could not recall any single occasion where I actually had to instruct her to stay late to complete urgent work”. She was always proactive and is obligingly sensitive to client requests. Already we have received client feedback on her exemplary level of service. Sook Lee is definitely an asset to VNIX.
We hope to hire more employees whom will follow in her style, attitude of work and life.
